PASTURE PROPER™ FOOD
Balancing Animals with the Environment
Pasture Proper™ is a consulting, certifying and marketing entity for a group of producers in Idaho and Oregon.
We have had personal experience raising grass fed beef on our farm in Oregon. Since moving to Idaho we have chosen to help other ranchers learn how to grow their produce for the exceptional taste, tenderness and health that we were able to achieve in Oregon.
We are working with our producers in the following ways:
Consulting:
Working with them on genetic selection and improvements to their herds towards more tender and higher quality; Consulting on pasture production, maximizing their forage based feed resource (pasture components, extending the feed growth curve, preserving forages for winter feeding, rotational grazing methods, etc.)
Certifying:
Frequently visiting and ensuring that the list of production guidelines and standards are being followed so we can stand behind what we sell on behalf of the producers
Ensuring Tenderness
Unique to our industry, Pasture Proper™ utilizes leading edge technology and means to help ensure our beef product is tender. The first is dry aging, the traditional process of allowing natural meat enzymes to enhance tenderness and flavor. The second is hair sample testing that identifies genetic markers for tenderness in our producer’s herd sires. Lastly, each carcass will be sampled and tested for tenderness with a Warner-Bratzler Shear.
All these extra steps combined with grassfed management position Pasture Proper™ even beyond organic to meeting the needs of today’s discriminating consumer.
Marketing:
Utilizing our expertise and reputation, taking “certified” product from all of our contributing ranches and making it available for sale under our label and trademark through our website. We’re setting up distribution locations and outlets in our target market areas (Pacific Northwest, Northern California and Alaska), tracking product and sales on behalf of each producer.
We do the portion of the rancher’s business that is the most difficult for them to do for themselves because of time and resource constraints. But most importantly, by providing this service for our ranchers they are able to supply you with a much higher volume of product year around.
“When we feed animals their original diet, we are feeding them the food that is most in harmony with their genetic makeup.”
